Semi di lino; non sosia.

* FOR ENGLISH SCROLL DOWN

Ci sei nelle castagne?

Mi cambia pure a me.

Giulia Maria Cristina, my Not Double
The next portraits of her will have deeper colours;
in the meanwhile I can only donate us a preview of a first flat layer of sensations

Creeremo insieme, ci racconteremo insieme.

*
This story started four years ago, when I received from my friend Sonica a photograph with a girl totally looking like me: I have shown it here. My friend completely ignored how she found that picture: she just stumbled in it, neither online, just in her computer. Like that.
And she just sent me the portrait, astonished.
After two years, thanks to a new Google Images function, I could enter her file online and I found her (I told it here, still always in Italian, though).
Considering that she could live anywhere else on the Planet, the big surprise was discovering she was just from Milan, ninety kilometres from my hometown Cremona. I have tried to reach her by that her Flickr account, but she never received my message.
After three months, checking her Flickr statistics, she landed on my post, where I was telling "our" story.
We decided to meet, but at the time we were busy, I had finished my academic lessons and so I wasn't anymore living in Milan, so we postponed… and when, months later, I asked her to meet in Milan, she moved in Copenhagen. And when the past November I went to Copenhagen from Utrecht, where I already moved, she had moved in Milan, again.
So the past week, finally, going back in Italy to visit friends and family, we made it: we met.

And this is only the beginning…

Sunday 29 September 2013

John and Jul, Gianvito e Giulia, Johnny and Julia. Whatever. Them, holy shit.

So, what's going on?
What's the news of the year?
I know you can't get it, I know you maybe don't know them*, I know you can't probably understand how much it means to me, to us, but the fact is: Gianvito and Giulia became a couple, folks!!!
The story is weird and it's common at the same time, somehow, 'cause otherwise we wouldn't have the dynamics of the star crossed lovers and all those people understanding they love each other just some months after a whole bachelor together (and a big new geographical distance in the middle–we are the generation of the distance love, aren't we?!), but still we can't stop to be surprised realising these two damned wonderful beasts are now… are now… really really a couple!
Now I would like to tell you the worst funniest things about them, but I will save my sleeping time (as usual I write in late night…) and I will save also my dignity as future virtual "uncle" (yes, guys, of course, now you made me dream you'll use my name for your very-future-plan, I will start even to proudly write this honour as sort of reference on my CV, what did you hope?).
So, ok, let's censor my nails on the keyboard.
I will tell only one cool point: they are the both grown in a theatrical surrounding and they know pretty well the holy importance of the games.

So what else could you wish about your models, as drawer, once they ask you a portrait together?

These are just the first three experiments (forgive the low quality, please, and perhaps also complain to blogspot, thanks); one day I hope to have more fun and more time to use better their very inspiring complicity (meanwhile, I hope their complicity will learn how to don't shake too much when they want my pencil to follow their bodies… yes, that's why these sketches have been difficult, and, yes, I'm still very very disappointed in my friends).

Ma dico, vi rendete conto?
Gianvito e Giulia!!!
Quanto cazzo mi piacciono, 'sti bastardi.

* In case you don't know them, you have a lack into your life trip: find a trick and try to meet them.
Yes, if you pay me I'll be glad to write a touristic guide about their world: suggest a new book series to Lonely Planet and made me rich, thanks.

The Sheep Bones' Dream

I thought this was an "orphan chapter", but totally looks like sheep are messengers of this magic path meant to appear again on my sheets.

That word –"hope"– is very important. Thank you, Sigurður, for sharing it.
This is the first time it appears on my creation, but it won't be the last one.

Visions before the sleep

When I was a child and my mummy still could convince me to turn off even the light on my night table, close the novel and start to sleep, my little mind, still awake, was used to ride a trick to let digest nicely the idea of sleeping to my fears: let's have some visions and get lost in them – this was what my pillow whispered to myself every moon time. So, having a great visionary exercise before the sleep was one of my favourite habitual activity – the cherry on the cake, the gift at the end of the day, every day.
But when I became a teen ager, I lost this great habit… because all of my mind, in any spare time, was lost among damned love thoughts.
Now I'm glad to notify that I'm getting a bit older and wiser, my mind is calmer and the love I feel is not anymore interested in turning me into a labyrinth of blades and blood, so, here we go, my spare time is free again to fly on my visions. Still, usually I let fall my body on the blanket only once I'm totally exhausted, so I just straight to sleep tight each time; but I know it would be lovely to try to sleep a bit earlier sometimes, to enjoy my free visions.

…Anyway, two nights ago it happened again, I went to the bed with still some energies in my mind (thank you, Do), so some visions came to me.

Some of those became thicker and kept to stick to my fluffy neuro-arcade: later I found 'em into my dreams, probably insisting to gain a role by my pencils. The day after I found some hours to grab my pencils and draw them. They told me they wished to be better, but they still thanked me for seeking that time.

Here you zoom, if you like…

Portraits around the Rainbow

During my academic exam sessions, I had to stay all the time behind a monitor, behind a desk. From those periods, I strongly remember the sensation of being deeply, existentially wrong. The sensation that the sanity and the truth were far and about running freely elsewhere. I remember I was used to listen often to Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes and it was a serious pain ignoring the call to jump in a caravan and meet the world out there.
Also my breaks (or rather endless procrastinations) were just through a monitor… and that's how once I stumbled in a project by the photographer Benoit Paillé.

What I saw in it never left my mind and it kept to grow.

The past summer was my first one after my studies, I had moved from Italy in The Netherlands and everything was about my new life here.
This summer has been my first one to finally run to that dream

When the Earth is ravaged and the animals are dying, a new tribe of people shall come unto the Earth from many colors, classes, creeds, and who by their actions and deeds shall make the Earth green again. They will be known as the warriors of the Rainbow.

…and discover it was real.

The portraits I made, in the end, are really a few. I wished to do more, each face was very inspiring, but I don't have regrets, after all, because I know that each here and now I enjoyed the best of each moment, including the joy of helping around. So my time to draw has been almost only around the fire and then almost no light at all on my paper; drawing was very challenging! The results are not so good, but I still feel like sharing them, at least as memories for everyone.

Thank you so much once again, you all beautiful people.

I won't never forget that absurd first night when those well known lyrics, around the fire, kept suddenly a new meaning…

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one

The kid to the left asked me to draw as well. She is about nine, if I'm not mistaken. I repeated her many times that she's sincerely very talented and I wish she won't stop to draw. I like her drawing a lot and I would to share also hers.

After this moment between the Rainbow Kids, I understood that the next time I will must bring with me a lot of papers and colours to make all together a drawing workshop.

Coming back to The Netherlands from the Rainbow Gathering, which was in Wales, I stopped to hug my beloved Rib. in London, where I've been very lucky and, thanks to a friend from the Gathering, I found new beautiful people happy to give me a shelter (and what a shelter!) in a quiet and quaint neighbourhood (thanks, beasts!).

my beloved Rib.

My last morning in London, my sweet Rib. took many photographs in this wonderful house where we slept; as usual, whatever she does results beautiful – and I'm always honoured of being an ingredient of some of her art. I found myself touched "in advance" imaging that one day those her photographs will become the memory of a new-fresh-old myself just after my first Rainbow Gathering, happy and exhausted, towards the end of my youth. You can see them here, here, here and here.

«I gatti ci hanno visto!»

Fumbling among other old drawings, I stumbled in an almost forgotten one which I still like and which tonight I enjoyed as new little toy for a short digital editing session.

Here it is, from an enchanted bubble to the world (or vice versa).

«The cats have seen us!»
«The cats have seen us since the beginning.»

I had made it without any project in mind or too much precision, just as extemporary inspired idea, but I did love how to me it looks capable to arouse a narration (which should be, indeed, the most important quality of a true good healthy illustration, or at least an important type of it).

He Who Travels Far

Once upon a time a little eccentric, evil child, angry with anything and anybody, decided he was made to travel far.

Mongolia is the land he dreamt to reach more than any other since he learnt to read.

Today that child has grown, became unexpectedly good and after months  warming up himself and learning the Asian culture, to don't look like a rude ignorant man from Europe or America, today, after Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos, now that grown child is at his last stop before the goal…

Today that child has grown, he's in Beijing and his heart gets faster each time he thinks about that: in six days, that grown child will be in Mongolia.

Hanggai is a band which lets whisper Mongolia in their magical art.
Some members of Hanggai are from Beijing, where the band is based; the leader and some other members are from Mongolia.

We Who Travels Far is their second album.

If I'm not mistaken, maybe you didn't neither really notify that title, when you were electrified by it for the first time, a long time ago, when you were still living in your beloved Utrecht and I was still in Italy. At least, I know I did notify it for sure.

The past 19th of May, around two months after your departure, when Hanggai came to Utrecht, I was floating around the stage to portrait them,

wishing to be blown by your same wind.

Vai maluco! :)

Greeting to the Sun ~ ali lilla

And so it's September, yesterday I came back in my delicious Utrecht twenty minutes after eight o'clock and the sky was already gonna be dark: the days become shorter and the summer is fading away.
Some hours before, in the morning, I was in London, and I felt that I somehow completed this my travelling season, started right in London, in May. In the middle, many experiences and the sensation I made an interesting path.
My last stop in London, anyway, have been the end of a very bigger adventure, in a forest along the river Wye in Wales, following the dream I dreamt for years: a Rainbow Gathering, finally.

Each chapter of this summer will have its role in my creative flow, as simple inspiration or often as real footage I made during the way, so I'll have to work on all these months for a lot of time and slowly, bit by bit, I'll share more and more – likely for the rest of my life, because the seeds of this summer will be among the kindest and then the strongest.

Meanwhile, I suppose there is an image which knows how to symbolise this season, this path, this way: thank you so much, Andre, for seeing this Greeting to the Sun.
